Presented during the ICIM-18 Gala in Montpellier on July 1st, 2026, this short film retraces the history of inorganic membranes, from the first developments in the 1940s to today’s scientific, technological and industrial achievements.
Through this tribute, the European Membrane House honours the pioneers, researchers and institutions who helped shape the field, including IEM Montpellier, the University of Twente, Professor Louis Cot, Professor A.J. Burggraaf and Professor Ramesh R. Bhave.
Beyond celebrating this scientific heritage, the video also reflects the mission of the European Membrane House: to connect the membrane community across Europe, support knowledge sharing, encourage collaboration between academia and industry, and promote membrane science as a key driver for sustainable innovation.
Today, EMH is actively developing initiatives to strengthen the visibility of membrane technologies, foster European partnerships, support new collaborative projects, and build bridges between researchers, companies, institutions and future generations of membrane scientists.
This video is both a tribute to those who paved the way and an invitation to continue building the future of membrane science together.
